A child is gently led to prepare for his grandfather's death by taking a walk with him.  During this imaginary walk, the grandfather gradually shrinks and the child, who previously heard his grandfather's voice from the outside, learns to hear it from the inside. The people who loved us continue to live inside us, if we know how to listen to them. When Mattia returns to the room where everyone is crying, his grandfather has died. But Mattia knows that what he sees is just the armour - the exuvia - that insects leave behind when they grow. And he also knows that his grandfather continues to live inside him.
