A story inspired by events during the Second World War.  Two friends, Tilly and Rosy, when they find out that their beloved pets - a dog and a cat - are going to be slaughtered along with many other animals, decide to hide them in an abandoned hut in the woods. Their secret is discovered by other children who take their animals there, turning the abandoned hut into an emergency zoo.

 A story of friendship and courage in dark and desperate times, and a moving defence of animals' right to life.
